## Keynote Indications
Sulfonal was at first regarded as one of the safest of hypnotics, but many cases of poisoning 
by medicinal doses have occurred and the schema is made up of reported effects produced on patients.  
Sulfon. is a coal tar product which produces ataxic symptoms, staggering gait, anesthesia of legs with absence 
of knee jerks. Chorea. Cerebellar disease. V ertigo of cerebral origin. The symptoms disappear slowly.  
Reflexes abolished. Epilepsy, with over excitability of the cortical substance. Twitch ing of muscles, especially 
of face and flexors, worse by voluntary movement, but always present in sleep. Muscular incoordination. 
Paralysis of body, better by cold water, and cold douches. Great prostration. Paralysis progressive sometimes 
with hyperesthesia and abnormal sensation, affecting first legs, then arms.  
Profound weakness, faint feeling and despondency. Fainted and vomited. Loss of control of sphincter. Livid, 
especially the face. Cyanosis. Death by respiratory failure preceded by unconsciousness.

### Vertigo
- Vertigo of cerebral origin, unable to rise from seat.
- COMMENTS - Ataxic gait and diminished or abolished reflexes.
- Locomotor ataxia.
- Ascending paralysis.
- Stupor.
- Headache with noises in ears.
- Rashes on the skin, purpura, erythematous, etc.
- Vomiting and diarrhea.
- Urine retained or secretion arrested, claretcolored, containing albumen, porphyrin.

Sulfonalum heart, fainting occurs and death takes place by heart failure.
- One man observed uniform skin effects every time he took Sulfon., more intense the larger the dose.
- This 
occurred from 5 grains: patches of erythema appeared first on inner side of first phalanx of r ight little finger, 
next over proximal ends of metacarpal bones of left thumb and index, on posterior surface of left forearm a 
little below elbow, fourth on prepuce.
- The symptoms were better by cold douches.

- Tongue as if paralyzed.

### Throat
- Aphasia, dysphagia, difficult speech.

### Chest
- Heart failure and edema of lungs.
- Heart’s action feeble, occasionally in termittent.
- Kidneys - Constant desire to urinate.
- Retention of urine, had to be drawn off, darkcolored.
- Urine very scanty, 
albuminous, almost solid  when cooled, with casts.
- Pink color.
- Urine cherry -color, later like dark port wine.
- Hematoporphyrinuria, urine oscillated between deep claret and light claret color.
- Dark brown urine.

### Stomach & Abdomen
- Constant retching, vomiting and sorenessoverepigastrium.
- Vomiting, diar rhea and violent chi lls.
- Great disturbance of digestion with scanty urine.
- Temperature - Violent chills.
- Spleen enlarged, hyperemic.
- Back - Chronic leptomeningitis.

### Urinary & Genital
- Erythema on prepuce.

### Extremities
- Restlessness, muscular twitchings.
- Ataxic movements, staggering gait, cold, weak, trembling, legs 
seem too heavy.
- Knee -jerks.
- Plantar reflex deficient.
- Cramps of legs and single muscles.
- Stiff ness and 
paralysis of both legs.
- Anesthesia of legs.
- lutings - Congestion of lungs, stertorous breathing.
- Sighing dyspnea.
- Ede ma of lungs.
- Signs of 
bronchopneumonia.

### Skin
- Itching, bluish purpura.
- Discolored patches like purpura on skin.
- Erythe matous measles-like eruption.

### Sleep
- Insomnia.
- Fidgety, wakeful, drowsy.
- Sleepiness and weariness with unsteady gait.
- Stupor.
- Heaviness 
and drowsiness.
