It was so sudden and strange I immediately felt \nmy pulse and found it very irregular and feeble, so much so I think I was frightened, at least, I did not take any \nmore of the medicine.\u201d \nCushing used th is in his case of a female doctor, 30, married, no children, never ill except with children's \ndiseases, had much mental trouble two years before and had done much cycling. Since then her heart had \ngiven trouble. About five times in a minute the heart would  give one hard, unpleasant throb, then omit one \nbeat. During the night it was much worse and prevented sleep. Phase. 10c was given.  \nThirty-six hours later the heart would beat a hundred beats without varying and improvement continued, but \nthe patient had to give up the remedy on account of the headache it caused, \u201cas if something were pressing \nhard against each temple\u201d, much worse after each dose of the medicine. The patient was never subject to \nheadaches. \nHe had another case, in which a man, 45, had dropsy , heart and other complications. Bean pod decoction \nenabled him to lie down on a couch and markedly diminished the dropsy.  \nA clergyman, 69, many years invalid on account of heart disease after unusual exertion was greatly exhausted \nand became entirely pulseless and so remained four days in spite of treatment until Phase. 9x was given. In a \nfew hours pulse returned. In thirty -six hours it was regular and strong and so remained until his death, which \noc- curred two weeks later. \nIn another case, Cushing observ ed a woman, 50, weak, tired, badly acting heart for some years. Phase. 9x \nwas given and in forty-eight hours \u201cher heart wheeled into line all right and remains so.\u201d  \nAnother woman, 87, heart acted badly, every third beat omitted. After taking Phase, two days pulse quite right. \nA nurse, 50, \u201chad fearful time with her heart palpitating and feeling as if she should die,\u201d Phase. 15x cured. \nThe patient \u201cnever took anything in her life that did her so much good.\u201d \nIn a confinement case, with primipara, urine loaded with albumen, frightful convulsions, forceps delivery. Two \n \n \nhours later the heart failed and no stimulants would start it. \nPhase. 9x was given and in ten minutes the heart was all right. Twice in the night the dose had to be repeated, \nbut that was all. The albumen rapidly disappeared and a quick recovery was made. \nS. R. Stone reported the case of Mr. T., 69, whom he found semi -conscious, yet suffering severely, having \nbeen seized with distress in heart region, respiration labored, pulse 51. He had attacks previously, but lighter \nand the pulse in them had always been slow. \nPhase. 6x was given, at first every half hour, then every hour.
