# Osmium

## Keynote Indications
Osmium is a metal of the platinum group in association with which it is always found. It is 
the heaviest of them all and the most refractory, having never been fused. It derives its name from the pungent 
odor of the fumes of osmic acid, which are evolved in the process of separating platinum from its ore.  
The odor of Osmium closely resembles that of chlorine, as also do its irritating effect on the respiration mucus 
membrane. The odor imparted to the secretions is various, it makes  the urine smell like violets, the belchings 
like radishes, the axillary sweat like garlic. 
Triturations of the pure metal have been proved. The symptoms of the metal and of the acid are taken together. 
Osm. affects the respiratory tract, especially the trachea. Irritation and catarrh of respiratory organs. Pain in 
trachea. 
Pains go up and down. Crawling on back and shoulders. Increases and gives odor to local perspiration. 
Albuminuria. Eczema. Causes adhesion of the nail fold.

## Modalities (Aggravations / Ameliorations)
Open air helps the smarting in eyes. Worse coughing, talking, riding, touch. Worse in evening. 
Cough worse until midnight. Open air aggravates coryza, cough.

### Eyes
- Increase in intra-ocular tension, dim sight, photophobia.

### Ears
- Earache evenings, first right then left ear.

blown, mouth open, sleep noisy.

### Mouth
- Aching in jaws, pain in muscles of mastication.
- Mouth sticky and pasty.
- Copious salivation.
- Taste of 
blood, metallic, cigars cannot be smoked, because they provoke cough and worse the rawness in larynx, taste 
blunted.
- Nose - Nose and larynx sensitive to air.
- Full feeling in nose.
- Coryza, fluent with a feeling of stoppage.
- Snuffling.
- Small lumps of phlegm from posterior sinuses.

### Throat
- Acute laryngitis, cough andexpec- toration of tough, stringy mucus.
- Talking causes pain in the larynx.
- Hoarseness, sore sternum.
- Tongue - Tongue coated, red stripe in middle, fissured, one spot denuded.
- Tongue edges rough and covered 
with pimples.
- Tongue sensitive to touch when eating and drinking.
- Bad taste to coffee.
- COMMENTS - The respiratory tract is irritated and pained from beginning to end.
- The nostrils and larynx are 
sensitive to cold air.
- Pain in larynx, trachea and in and under sternum on coughing.
- Talking causes pain in 
larynx.
- Cough convulsive in paroxysms, hollow sounding as if one coughed into an empty tube, caused by irritation in 
larynx or low down in chest.
- Violent headaches, affecting the base of the brain.

- In the provings, the erections were severe almost 
to priapism and the ejaculations were longer-lasting and more copious than normal.

- Oppression, better deep inspiration.

### Extremities
- Heaviness and weariness of limbs, worse knees.
- Twitching of fingers with spasmodic cough.
