It was discovered in 1711 by Johann Conrad Dippel, the alchemist, who was the discoverer \nof Prussian blue. \nDippel obtained it in the first instance by a distillation of stags' horns, the deciduous horns of the stag partaking \nmore of the nature of bone than the permanent horns of cattle. This lead to the name Oleum cornu cervi, with \nwhich the Ol-an. is at present prepared is considered identical. \nSircar noted that though it is not the pana cea which Dippel imagined it to be when he discovered it, Ol -an. in \na very powerful medicinal substance and since it has been well proved by Nenning, Schreter and Trinks, it has \na definite place in the Homeopathic Materia Medica. \nGrimmer indicated it in cases of breast cancer with burning or sticking and pres sure radiating in all directions, \nrelieved by rubbing and in the open air. A uterine tumor cured with several doses of Ol -an. 1000c potency \ngiven at long intervals shows its relationship to new growths. \nPain in spots. Stitches, burning pains, as with red hot needles. \u201cPulled upward\u2019\u2019 and \u201cfrom behind forward\u201d \npains in malar bones, testicles, breasts. Flesh feels torn from bones. Affe cted part feels sore. Symptoms \nappear here and there or in single parts. \nAffects the nerves, especially pneumogas - tric nerve, digestive organs. Neurasthenia. Migraine, neuralgia of \nspermatic cord. It darkens and thickens \non exposure to air and light and is extremely volatile. A drop on paper evapo rates without leaving a greasy \nstain.\u2019Tts composition is extremely complex, but it may be rega rded as belonging to the group of volatile \ncarbons. \nBurning pains and burning sensations in almost all parts, stitching pains, \u201cstitches as with red -hot needles\u201d \n(Kali-c., other carbons). Stitches and pressure in all directions, particularly from behind f orward. \nCramp-like pains indifferent parts. Sensa tion of part being pulled upward. The left side is predominantly \naffected, when direction is noted it is from before backward and from behind upward. Cracking in vertebra of \nneck on raising head. \nTwitching of lips and swelling beneath right lower jaw. Malar bone feels as if pulled forcibly upward. Greasy \nfeeling in mouth and accumulation of quantities of saliva white as snow. Relaxation of buccal mucus \nmembrane, patient cannot avoid biting cheek when he eats. \nSensation as of white of egg dried on lips. Soreness of tongue as if scalded. Sensation as if cold air penetrated \nthroat although the air is warm, better eating and drinking, worse empty swallowing. Desire for soft-boiled eggs \nor for bread, with aversion to meat. Sensation as if water were in stomach, as if a lump of ice there. Belchings \ntaste like urine and burn. \nBoth testicles are drawn up and very painful. \u201cStitches from behind forward in breasts, pressure from both \nsides of the back extends forward.\u201d Menses too early and too scanty. \nClarke gave great relief in a case of cancer of right breast in which the patient complained of pains darting \nforward out of the nipple. \nDr. Leggett related the case of a very stout Dutch woman, 56, who had been under constitutional treatment for \nuterine tumor, engorged liver and cerebral congestion. She fancied the tumor had increased to the size it was \nyears ago. She had the sensation as if water rushing back and forth in stomach. She had been walking, \nstanding and shopping and had eaten many sweets. \nOf the remedies having \u201cstomach as if full of water,\u201d Ol -an. was chosen as more similar to the case than Mill, \nor Phell. and was given in 1000c potency, a single dose. A month later she was better in every way and a \nsecond dose brought still further improvement. \nA case of long-standing neuralgia of the spermatic cord was cured. There were ex cruciating attacks three or \nfour times every year, pains as if testicles were seized by a hand and pulled very severely. Ol -an. 18c gave \nalmost instant and permanent relief. \nDever cured a toothache in an extremely irritable patient, pain better by pressing the teeth together. The \nprovings had \u201cstitches in right upper molar removed by pressure after dinner.\u201d  \nThe cure of a case of migraine is  quoted in H. M., July, 1895. Zwingenberg, after failing with Sang., gave Ol -\nan. 2x, five drops in warm water, morning and evening to a woman who always suffered from migraine the day \nafter a party, at which she usually wore a heavy diadem on her head. \nPolyuria of clear urine accompanied the migraine and suggested the remedy. This accompaniment may \nindicate Ol-an. in any nervous disorder. Zwingenberg also cured a case of nervous asthma following repelled \nfoot-sweat.","Head":"Migraine with polyuria. Pain in spots.
