The\nscent of its flowers is ra ther unpleasant.  Its fruit is of orange colour.\nThe seeds of the plant remain wra pped under soft hair.  The remedy is\nprepared by grinding the seeds.  In  traditional medicines, it has been\nused in the treatment of extremel y serious conditions, like plague,\nhysteria, rheumatism and rabies.  Since Nux Vomica seeds contain\nmany poisonous substances, therefor e the homoeopathic medicine\nproduced from the seeds is extensively used as an antidote to many\npoisons.  Patients who have used  different medicines in large\nquantities should be treated with Nu x Vomica in order to dispel their\nill effects and to give the patient\u2019s body a fresh start.\n\nNux Vomica is very intimately related to Sulphur.  While restoring the\nnatural body responses, Sulphur produces painful skin diseases.  Nux\nVomica cleanses the body of these skin diseases without suppressing\nthe diseases back inside the body.  Thus, Nux Vomica works as an\nextremely potent adjuvant of Sulphur.  It ameliorates the skin diseases\nwithout impeding the useful functions  of Sulphur.  If haemorrhoids\nneed to be treated with Sulphur, then Nux Vomica should also be used\nwith it.  Nux Vomica proves to be the best adjuvant in abating the\ndiscomfort of haemorrhoids.\n\nNux Vomica is also useful in the treatment of different allergies.\nSome people develop an allergy to rice or meat and develop\nhyperacidity.  By the grace of God, with the use of Nux Vomica, the\npatients find instant relief.  Nux Vomica has not been mentioned in\nany of the literatures as a specific treatment for rice allergies but based\non its symptoms; I have tried Nux Vomica on such patients.  In spite\nof the fact that Nux Vomica is of a hot nature and the rice allergy is\nrelated to a humid climate, it relieves the symptoms of allergy to rice.\n\nIndigestion produces hyperacidity in the stomach .  The patient\nbecomes peevish and easily enraged.  Such patients are usually thin\nand skinny.  However, sometimes even fat people can develop\nhyperacidity in the stomach.  For th em, there are many other remedies\navailable.  Nux Vomica is the ideal homoeopathic remedy for the\ntreatment of rather skinny, peevish a nd irritable type of people.  Such\npatients have certain habits that make their symptoms worse.  For\nexample they remain awake late at night, they work for a long time in\na sedentary state and they do not exercise regularly.  Excessive\ndrinking in the western culture or  eating too much oily food in the\neastern culture produces hyperacidity.  All such patients benefit from\nNux Vomica.\n\nApart from the digestive system , Nux Vomica does not have any\nprofound effect on other major internal organs.  However, it does\naffect the external musculature, mucous membranes and the skin.  A\nbackache developing fr om sitting for too long  can be cured with\nNux Vomica.  The Nux Vomica backache is usually localised at one\nparticular area.  If other sympto ms of Nux Vomica were present,\nincluding gastric hyperacidity , then the profound weakness which\nappears suddenly in such patients  would also be cured with Nux\nVomica.  During this weakness, the person may not even be able to\nmove his hands.  The patient feel s instantly rejuvenated with Nux\nVomica.  It should be given in potency 30 to be repeated every few\nminutes.\nThe Nux Vomica poison slows down th e peristaltic movement of the\nintestines.  In healthy people, after taking food, the peristalsis\nbeginning at the stomach must continue to the end of the intestines, so\nthat the semi-digested food may be  passed on.  Normally this cycle\nshould complete in fourteen hours.  After fourteen hours, the contents\nremain inside the large gut to allow for the absorption of excess\nsecretions.  Thus a healthy person normally has one motion in twenty-\nfour hours.  If the system of peristalsis slows down the person\nbecomes constipated, and if it becomes too speedy then diarrhoea\ndevelops, or sometimes the patient may have frequent solid motions,\none after the other.  Nux Vomica is an effective treatment specific for\nthis condition.\n\nGastric dysfunction  can often aggravate asthma.  So asthmatics\nshould avoid eating food that may upset their stomach and also food\ncausing irritation of throat.  Such fo ods would always precipitate their\nasthma.  Extremely cold or sour th ings like pickles can also be very\ndangerous to asthma patients.  Nux Vomica is very beneficial in the\ntreatment of asthma due to hyperacidity .  To prevent against the\nasthma related to the nasal col d, one should keep taking prophylactic\nremedies, so that the patient neither catches cold nor develops asthma\nsince prevention is better than cure.\n\nNux Vomica is also useful in the treatment of leg cramps .  Given at\nthe outset it offers instant relief.  If the cramps are associated with\nsymptoms like Belladonna, even then Nux Vomica, by itself proves to\nbe curative.  Regarding the cramps associated with Nux Vomica, there\nis some contradiction in that the backache becomes worse in the cold\nand the stomachache becomes worse from heat.  The reason for this is\nthat Nux Vomica contains many chemical compounds which behave\ndifferently on different occasions .  Nux Vomica contains Belladonna\nand Cuprum, so some of the symptoms of Nux Vomica may aggravate\nfrom heat.\n\nNux Vomica has proven to be the best general remedy for the\ntreatment of common day-to-day leg cramps .  It is also very\neffective in the treatment of sleeplessness .  For example, Nux\nVomica is the best alternative for drug addicts  and people with the\nhabit of taking sleeping pills.  I often start the treatment of drug\naddicts with Nux Vomica.  With some exceptions, all the patients\nhave benefited from the treatment.  Once, a young drug addict was\nbrought to me by his pare nts.  Obviously, they were very worried and\ndismayed.  The patient was being treated for drug addiction with\nsleeping pills, yet he could not sleep even with heavy doses of\nhypnotic medicines.  I advised him to take Nux Vomica 30 three times\na day, and kept his sleeping pills with  me.  I assured him that if he\ncould not go to sleep during the night, he could come and take the\nsleeping pills back from me in the morning.  That night, for the first\ntime in a long time, the patient enjoyed sound sleep.  In the morning\nhe told me that with sleeping pill s, he could never have comfortable\nsleep, whereas with Nux Vomica, he had slept comfortably.  His\nsleeping pills remained with me for a long time as a souvenir.  Thus,\nNux Vomica has proven to be a very useful medicine for treating the\nside effects of drug addiction  and also for getting rid of the habit of\nusing sleeping pills.  If Nux Vomica alone is not fully effective,\nChamomilla should also be given al ong with it.  Together, besides\nacting as sedatives, they also dispel  the ill effects of the addictive\ndrugs.\n\nNux Vomica is the best remedy for sleeplessness resulting from a\nheavy workload, lengthy talking or so me sort of mental anguish.  Nux\nVomica is also an excellent antidote for the ill effects of coffee.  By\nthe grace of God, the people who lose sleep due to drinking coffee can\ninstantly go to sleep with just one  dose of Nux Vomica.  The patient\ngoes to sleep right away without a feeling of preliminary drowsiness.\n\nMorning dizziness  is a symptom of Nux Vomica.  Probably, the\npatient did not get a good night\u2019s sleep and the mind was not properly\nrested, resulting in dizziness.  In some sensitive individuals Nux\nVomica 200 can cause sleeplessness.  Generally nux vom 20 is more\neffective for sleep than Nux Vomica 200. One learns the proper use of\nthe potencies from keen observations and long experience.\n\nIf the nasal discharge solidifies  clogging both nostrils, it produces\nsevere headache.  The pain becomes worse on bending forward.  The\npatient feels pressure inside the head.  The nose remains blocked  all\nthe time.  This condition is called a sinus problem.  Nux Vomica 1000\ngiven at night proves to be extraord inarily effective.  By the morning,\nthe patient sneezes a lot, expelling the liquefied nasal discharge and\nclearing the nose.  There are some other possible remedies too for this\ncondition.  However, one should alwa ys start the treatment with Nux\nVomica.\n\nOne symptom of Nux Vomica is that in women, menstruation\nbecomes irregular .  If the periods start earlier than the usual time,\nthey become prolonged.  However, if the periods start delayed, they\nstop relatively earlier.  Bryonia also has a similar symptom, with the\ndifference that in Bryonia, the menstrual irregularities become worse\non movement.  In Nux Vomica, the symptoms are not affected by\nmovement.\n\nIn Nux Vomica, there is a feeling that the uterus is prolapsing\ndownwards.  There is a feeling of uneas iness in the bladder and one\nfeels like passing urine frequently, bu t in small quantity.  The patient\ndevelops constipation, which keeps alternating with diarrhoea.  In\nNux Vomica, the haemorrhoids itch a lot.  The stools are rather small\nthough frequent.  The peristaltic movements of the intestines become\nslow.  The stomach secretes an excessive amount of acid.  However\n(unlike Pulsatilla), a Nux Vomica patient can digest oily food.\n\nNux Vomica is an excellent appetizer and an equally well appetite\nsuppressant.  Patients getting hunger pangs should be treated with Nux\nVomica.  Many such patients can get an asthma attack due to hunger.\nOnce they are treated with Nux Vomica, they do not get asthma.\n\nIn Nux Vomica, the headache begins mostly in the area above the\neyes, getting worse on moving the eyeb all.  It feels like a stabbing\npain.  On going into sunlight or on  opening the eyes in the sunlight,\nthe headache intensifies.  The headache aggravates in the morning and\nafter eating food.  Sometimes duri ng the headache, the patient may\nalso bleed from the nose.  Severe constipation is common.  The\nheadache is also related to haemorrhoids.  The patient cannot tolerate\nnoise or touch.  The mouth tastes bad.  In the morning, the patient\nfeels nauseated  but does not vomit.  After eating food, the patient\nfeels pressure and pain in the stomach .  The patient cannot tolerate\neven light pressure on the stomac h.  The lower part of the stomach\nappears swollen and heavy like a stone.  At the onset of an asthma\nattack, the cough begins a day before the stomach upset.  The chest\nrattles with the accumulation of secretions in the lungs.  Other\nsymptoms of Nux Vomica are a dr y or suffocating type of cough\nassociated with blood in the sputum, the onset of headache and\nbackache on coughing , a burning sensation in  the backbone which\nbecomes worse at three or four o\u2019 clock in the morning, and relief of\nsuffering on resting at noon time and on sweating.  In Nux Vomica,\nsmall sores develop inside the mouth .  The margins of the tongue\nbecome yellowish-white and fissured.  The gums become swollen ,\nare white and bleed.  There is a f eeling of being c hoked and pinching\nin the throat, which appears to be spreading to the ears.\n\nThere is an interesting sy mptom of Nux Vomica. Some  bad-natured\nand malicious persons  always backbite and keep finding faults in\nother people.  Treatment with high potency Nux Vomica restores their\nnormal thinking.  They do not remain jealous of others either.\nHowever, it is not essential that every Nux Vomica patient be of\njealous nature.\n\nA Nux Vomica patient wakes up in the later part of the night and\ncannot go back to sleep again.  He  feels drowsy in the morning.  He\nmay feel sudden weakness in the arms and legs .  The symptoms\nbecome worse after eating food, me ntal overwork, eating oily spicy\nfood and in dry cold weather.
