White wrote that it has a popular repute as specific in chronic diarrhea fol lowing exposure in camp life, \nand also as an application to non-granulating ulcers. For this purpose the root is to be chewed and then applied. \nWhite was invited to chew a piece, which he did. In six or eight hours he had three successive calls to stool, \nvery urgent, a little griping in lower back and some straining at stool. He has confirmed its use in camp diarrhea, \nbut says it acts better if Sulph. or Merc-c. is given first. \nWhite reported the case of Mr. X, 56, who had chronic diarrhea since the war. He had tried treatment of all \nkinds, homeopathic included. He had twelve to sixteen stools a day and had loss much weight.
