Its patient starts\ntrembling when terrified in a dream or  on the sudden appearance of a\nstranger before him.  He becomes overwhelmed with fear when\nexcited.  The body becomes cold and bluish.  Sometimes, such a\npatient may develop epileptic fits .  The vision becomes blurred.\nEvidently, such a patient is a coward and weak at heart.  Laurocerasus\nhappens to be a cardio-tonic for such  patients.  In particular, it is\nrelatively beneficial in older people.  These patients have a weakening\nof the heart muscle, which results in accumulation of fluid in the lungs\n(i.e. pulmonary oedema), and cau ses difficulty in breathing.\nGenerally, doctors give such pati ents inhaler treatment or strong\nasthma medicines.  These help by relieving the constriction of their air\npassages and facilitates breathing for some time.  However, on\nprolonged use, these medicines lose their effectiveness even if given\nrepeatedly.  The patient may, in fact , die during this attack of cardiac\nasthma.  Laurocerasus helps to eliminate the need for using the\ninhaler.  Laurocerasus  is a very effective treatment for combating\ndifficulty in breathing, (dyspnoea),  suffocation, and tightness of\nthe chest as well as the sudden feeling of being choked and sinking\nof the heart.  It increases the efficiency of the valves of the heart and\nis very helpful in the treatment of heart murmurs.  It also tones the\nheart musculature and thus relieves  the backlog of blood in the lungs\nand the oedema of the lungs.  It is particularly useful in the treatment\nof a cough arising from the failing heart which causes congestion of\nthe lungs.  Spongia also helps su ch patients.  The face of a\nLaurocerasus patient turns bluish (cya notic) due to the relative lack of\noxygenation of blood in the lungs.  Not all of its patients necessarily\nbecome cyanotic.  In fact, some have a pale complexion. Such patients\nwill need a different kind of therapy.  Laurocerasus is famous for the\ntreatment of cyanotic diseases of the heart.\n\nIn Laurocerasus, the chest muscles become weak (expiratory\nmuscles).  Sometimes, the diaphragm becomes weak and fails to expel\nair from the lungs i.e. expiration wh ile breathing in (inspiration) faces\nno such difficulty.  This type of  symptom complex reminds one of\nLaurocerasus i.e. the chest muscles continue to help breathing in,\nthough, breathing out is difficult and laboured.\n\nA Laurocerasus patient feels very cold.  Attempts to warm him up\nexternally do not help either.  Sometimes, there is severe pain in the\nstomach, so much so that the patient may not even be able to talk.\nThe muscles on the face become ti ght and contracted, giving a grim\nappearance.  Thirst is severe  and the mouth is very dry.  Small\nswellings form at the nails of the fingers and toes (clubbing of the\nfingers related to cyanotic diseases of  the heart).  There is a feeling of\nthe hips and ankles being painfully  sprained.  The fingers become\ndeformed and the dilated veins become visible on the hands.\n\nIn Laurocerasus, drowsiness and dizziness  are not unusual. The\npatient may also faint.  Mental infirmity induce s loss of memory .\nThoughts are no longer streamlined.  Severe headache is associated\nwith a cool feeling on the forehead.  The patient feels very thirsty but\nhis appetite is lost.  The stomach feels contracted and hurts badly.\nThe stools are watery, greenish in co lour and associated with severe\ngriping pain.\n\nThe ailments of Laurocerasus s ubside on sitting down.  On lying\ndown, coughing starts.  There is a feeling of a big ball rolling from the\nstomach towards the back.
