In\nallopathy, it is used to induce vomiting, while in homoeopathy, Ipecac\nis used to control nausea and vomiting .  Its patient has a persistent\nfeeling of nausea even after vomiting.\n\nIpecac is a very important anti-malarial treatment .  Malaria is\nstrongly connected with nausea and also attacks the stomach.  From\nthis point of view, Ipecac is naturall y related to malaria.  A distinctive\nfeature of Ipecac is that the patient f eels severe cold in his back with\nconstant waves of cold up and down.  The pain also undulates\nsimilarly in the back.  A child st ruck with malaria obviously cannot\nexplain the symptoms himself.  Ho wever, the symptoms of feeling\nsevere cold, shivering and chattering of the teeth will indicate the need\nfor Ipecac.  If such a child presen ts other symptoms of Ipecac also,\nthen there should be no delay in treating him with Ipecac.  A severe\nstabbing pain is felt over the stomach, moving from left to right.  The\npatient feels as if the stomach has been cut with a knife.  The patient\nbecomes riveted in one position.  Ho wever, the pain disappears after a\nshort while.  Pains that are not of a permanent nature, which come on\nfast like a spell of lightning and then leave the patient weak and\nexhausted, typify Ipecac. In every ailm ent of Ipecac, nausea is a must.\nEven coughing provokes nausea. Ipecac ailments become worse in hot\nand humid climate.\n\nIpecac is the best treatment for bleeding .  The bleeding is of a\nsudden and forceful nature.  In Ipecac, bleeding is always associated\nwith a feeling of nausea.  The patient does not feel thirsty at all.  Like\nthe patient of Arsenic, the Ipecac patient may feel very weak and\nrestless, but other symptoms of course are different.  Every ailment\ncomes on in the form of an attack, whether in the form of weakness or\nfeeling cold.  Similarly, there can be an episode of bleeding which will\nend after some time.  These attack s are usually not that long.  The\nIpecac ailments do not stay perm anently.  However, there is a\npossibility of rapid progress of th e disease.  Whenever an ailment\nstarts, it progresses rapidly and then goes away equally fast.\n\nIn Ipecac, convulsions occur.  Like Cicuta and Dioscorea, the body\ntends to bend backwards due to severe muscular contractions\n(opisthotonus).  Ipecac is one of the best treatments for stomach\ndisorders, such as distension of the abdomen  and dysentery\nassociated with severe cramps and frequent motions.  In the dysentery\nof children , the stools contain greenish mucus.  Stools may also be\nmixed with blood and there is a definite tendency of nausea and\nvomiting.  There is a kind of pinc hing sensation around the navel.\nThe entire body becomes stiff.  Ipecac is useful in the treatment of all\nthese symptoms.\n\nIpecac is also closely related to asthma.  Its patient has a full face,\nglowing with good circulation, while in Antimonium Tart, the asthma\npatient is very weak and has near-death appearance.  This difference is\nonly arbitrary and manifests in later stages.  Instead of waiting for this\nclear distinctive appearance, one should be able to distinguish between\nthe two at the outset of the disease.   In Ipecac, the illness is sudden,\nprogresses rapidly, and the face becomes flushed.  But in Antimonium\nTart, on exposure to cold the child becomes weak slowly and steadily,\nand once the disease has well esta blished the symptoms become\nextremely aggravated, more than in  Ipecac.  Moreover, the defensive\nbody response does not develop.  In  Ipecac, the enti re body of the\npatient reacts to the illness, but in Antimonium Tart, even if the chest\nis full of phlegm and there is diffi culty in breathing, the patient does\nnot have the desire to expel the phlegm.  The result is that the patient\nbecomes overwhelmed by the severity of  the disease.  If initially, the\ndiagnosis for Antimonium Tart has been made the treatment should be\nstarted without any delay.  Once the symptoms aggravate, the\ncondition becomes dangerous.  One di stinctive point between the two\nis that if there is nausea but no vomiting, then it is probably due to\nIpecac.  However, if there is a te ndency to vomit with or without\nnausea, it is a symptom of Antimoni um Tart, except in the case where\nthe chest becomes full of secretions, which the patient cannot expel\ndue to marked weakness.\n\nIpecac is also useful in the treatment of uterine conditions .  Ipecac\nis very effective to treat the excessive red menstrual bleeding\nassociated with nausea .  It is also useful in the vomiting of\npregnancy.  If the placen ta happens to be partially retained in the\nuterus after the childbi rth and if the patient has other symptoms of\nIpecac, then it will help in the expulsion of the placenta.  If the patient\ndevelops Puerperal Fever after childbirth, then Sulphur and\nPyrogenium should be considered.\n\nThe nasal catarrh  of Ipecac gets rooted in the nose.  The nose\nbecomes stuffy at night and the pa tient sneezes a lot.  The nasal\ndischarge drips into the throat and the chest, causing pain and\ntightness of the chest.  Asthma develops.  The cold starting at the\nnose and then affecting the throat and the chest, leading to asthma, can\nbe cured with Ipecac.  The standard formularies are mostly meant for\nthose who do not understand much homoeopathy.  At the same time, it\nis difficult to think of a unique pr escription keeping in view the\ndetailed symptoms of the patient.  After the attack of asthma is over,\nthe illness should be studied, keepin g in mind the constitution of the\npatient.  An asthmatic should be very careful about his diet.  He\nshould make every effort to avoid contracting nasal cold or sore\nthroat.\n\nWhen the kidneys become infected , the patient feels severe chills.\nSo in the beginning of the disease,  the patient should be well covered\nand given hot fluids to  sip.  Many a time, th e symptoms of kidney\ninfections and the onset of mala ria resemble each other therefore\nundue haste should be avoided.  In itially, symptomatic treatment\nshould be given and once the symptoms have been clearly defined,\nthen the proper treatment should be started.\n\nIpecac is also useful in the treatment of whooping cough  in view of\nthe associated symptom of spasmodic constriction of the air\npassages.  If during a convulsion, the entire body becomes stiff, the\nface becomes flushed and there is na usea, then Ipecac will prove to be\nextraordinarily beneficial.  One may think of Belladonna in this\ncondition, though Ipecac should first be tried.\n\nIpecac is also related to tetanus.\n\nAdjuvants: Cuprum, Arnica\nAntidotes: China, Tobaccum, Arsenic\nPotency: 30 to 200","modalities":"","symptoms_by_system":[],"schema_version":"1.0","api_provider":"Allahshafi"}
