Its patient feels extremely hot\nand very hungry, yet desp ite eating a lot, remain s thin and lean.  The\npatient is very talkative and can not sit still.  He keeps on moving\naround constantly.  The lymph glands  in the body become enlarged\nand hard, resembling that of Conium.  The skinny appearance of\nIodine patient reminds one of Abrotanum and Natrum Mur.  However,\nboth these remedies are of cold nature.\n\nThe restlessness of an Iodum patient is due to the anxiety neurosis.\nUnlike Arsenic, the irritability of th e nerves is due to  availability of\nmore energy for the nerve function.  Since the patient eats a lot and\nthe food is not converted into fatty  acids, the unused surplus energy\ndoes not let him keep still.  Theref ore, he is in constant motion and\nconsumes his energy by running around.  If such a patient is forced to\nsit, he reacts very angrily, and is rea dy to beat or even kill the person.\nIf he is not treated with Iodum during childhood, then on becoming an\nadult, he may become a very danger ous criminal, ready to kill without\nany reason or provocation.  Although the tendency of violence and\nkilling without reason is also f ound in Natrum Mur and Hepar Sulph,\ntheir other symptoms are very diffe rent.  This dangerous tendency is\nalso found in Nux Vomica.  A Nu x Vomica woman may develop an\nuncontrollable urge to throw her child  into fire or kill her husband\ndespite loving him immensely.  She then becomes extremely fearful of\nsuch desires but cannot get rid of such thoughts sticking in her mind\nand following her like a shadow.  If the patient also becomes\nextremely frightened, these symptoms may turn into insanity.  If other\nsymptoms of such a patient demand Iodum, it would prove extremely\nuseful.\n\nSome symptoms of Iodum are al so found in Kali Iodide.  A Kali\nIodide patient walks a lot but does not feel tired. On the day that he\ndoes not get a chance to walk, he feels uncomfortable.  His\nconstitution is also hot.  However, th ere is one difference and it is that\nin Kali Iodide there is a tendency to develop sores and deep ulcers,\nwhile in Iodum, the glands become simply inflamed and hardened .\nThere is a tendency to develop tuberculosis also.\n\nA special symptom of Iodum is th at the glands throughout the body\nbecome swollen and hard.  However, in women, the mammary glands\nshrink to a thin membrane.  This symptom is an exception, otherwise\ngenerally, when the body is wasting, the glands enlarge in size.  A\npatient, whose body is wasting while the glands are enlarging, needs\nIodum.  In Iodum, the glands and the body do not enlarge\nsimultaneously.  Usually, the glands inside the abdomen become\nmarkedly swollen and hard.  The gla nds in the armpits (axilla) also\nbecome swollen and indurated.\n\nIodum being a hot natured remedy, its cough aggravates in hot\nweather.  On entering a heated room, the patient starts coughing but\nthis symptom alone is not enough for making the diagnosis of Iodum.\nOther symptoms also need to be present.  In Iodum, the liver, spleen\nand throat are inflamed.  Generally , such inflammation and glandular\naffection results in diarrhoea.  In Iodum, there is throbbing all over the\nbody.  This sign is common to Be lladonna and Iodum both.  Iodum\nbeing a remedy of hot nature resembles Apis.  Both Apis and Iodum\nalso affect the kidneys.  Like Ap is, in Iodum, the swelling appears\nunder the eyes.  However, the swelli ng is not restricted to the area\nunder the eye; the eyelids also swell.  If the entire eye becomes\nswollen, Phosphorus is also found to be very effective.  The swelling\nof only the eyelids is a symptom of Kali Carb.  The patients who\nbecome weak and anaemic due to chronic illnesses develop bags\nunder the eyes, which make them look prematurely old.  For this\ncondition, Chininum Ars and Sarsapari lla, etc. can be benificial.  The\ndiagnosis should, however, be arrived at carefully.\n\nA distinctive feature of an Iodum patient is his excessive appetite.  In\nall the Iodum ailments, the increa sed appetite is disturbing and\naggravates the symptoms.  The intensity of appetite and illness are\nclosely related in Psorinum also, but in Psorinum the appetite\nincreases at night and its patient is usually cold.  Therefore, it is not\ndifficult to distinguish between the two remedies.\n\nIodum plays an important role in kidney disorders also.  Due to the\nkidney dysfunction, the hands and feet become swollen (oedema).\nTimely administration of Iodum will safeguard against numerous\nincurable and painful diseases.  Ka li Iodide is also useful in the\ntreatment of kidney diseases, but in  Kali Iodide, there is a tendency\ntowards the formation of ulcers that is absent in the case of Iodum.\n\nIn Iodum, the internal organs like spleen and liver become swollen\nand hard , while the entire body begins to waste.  Despite this, the\npatient retains his appetite.  Later on, the stomach fails to function and\ndiarrhoea sets in.  The diarrhoea due to tuberculosis is worse in the\nmorning and gets better with Sulphur .  If tuberculos is of the lungs\nbecomes severe, the toxic substances are then excreted naturally\nthrough the stools.  Thus suppression of diarrhoea which will result in\ndire consequences, therefore it sh ould be handled very carefully.\nAccording to the homoeopathic system  of treatment, Sulphur will not\nonly benefit the lungs but will also  stop the diarrhoea.  In such\npatients, if only the diarrhoea is co ntrolled, it will result in further\ndamage to the lungs.  In this condition, if Sulphur does not work, then\nIodum will be found very useful.  In fact, if other symptoms of Iodum\nare also present, Iodum alone may o ffer a complete cure.  Therefore,\nIodum is not just for temporary relief .  Some of its illnesses resemble\nthose of Sulphur, such as the formation of whitish blisters and ulcers.\n\nAll sorts of blisters and ulcers developing on the mucous membranes\ncan be cured with Iodum, provi ded the patient is of Iodum\nconstitution. Despite being of hot constitution, an Iodum patient\ndevelops catarrh on expos ure to cold. It is not necessary that the\npatient develop catarrh due to heat  only.  The nasal membranes in an\nIodum patient become extremely wea k, and vulnerable to catch cold\neasily.  The secretions dry up in th e nose making breathing difficult.\nA slight cold or change in the food habit causes cold.  Some of the\nmedicines used for the treatment of a cold are of cold and hot nature,\neach having its own separate symptoms distinct from Iodum.\nHowever, if the nose remains stu ffy due to constant catarrh and\nbleeding, along with excessive appe tite, then by th e grace of God,\nIodum will cure all of the symptoms\n\nIodum is also very effective in the treatment of tumours of the\nuterus, especially if other symptoms of  Iodum are also present.  In\nIodum, the leucorrhoeal discharge is very thick and burning in nature.\nIodum is also useful in the treatmen t of joint pains.  An Iodum patient\ngets relief with local cold applicatio ns.
