It is\nvery important in the treatment of liver diseases.  It is also related to\nthe skin and inner linings (mucous membranes).  Amongst its\nsuperficial symptoms, skin ulcers are very conspicuous.  When these\nulcers change into cancer, and do not respond to a ny other treatment,\nHydrastis must not be forgotten.  By the grace of God, Hydrastis is\nknown to control these dangerous kinds of ulcers growing out of hand.\n\nHydrastis is very effective against the deep-seated cancerous\nmasses and chronic ulcers of the eye .  Honey is the best form of\nlocal treatment for these chronic ulce rs.  The local application of pure\nhoney two to three times a day will in itially increase the exudation of\nthe fluid, following which the ulcers start to heal.  Recent research has\nshown that cancerous wounds that  do not respond to any other\nmedicines are cured with local application of honey.\n\nBeing deeply related to the liver diseases , Hydrastis affects the\nappetite. A very peculiar symptom is that there is a feeling of strong\ncraving and weakness while hungry, even though there is intense\ndislike for food.  However, there is no associated nausea.  These\nsymptoms are also found in some other diseases, though in slightly\ndifferent form.\n\nThe cold in a patient of Hydrastis is associated with constant\npresence of sticky yellow thick exudates in the nose, which then\ndries up .  On picking the nose, the ch ildren develop sores, from\nwhich blood may ooze.  Hydrastis is the best remedy for these kinds\nof sores in the nose.  The symptoms of Hydrastis are relieved with\nrest.  When the ailment aggravates, the face shows signs of jaundice.\nIt becomes yellowish.  The eyelids swell and sores develop  on them\n(Blephritis).  Thick offensive smelling material forms in the ears\ncausing deafness.\n\nWhile the patient with symptoms of nasal catarrh stays inside the\nroom, the nose stops running but the discomfort increases when in the\nopen again.  Due to the extreme dislike for food a Hydrastis patient\nhas to live on milk, which he zealous ly drinks and can also digest\neasily.  The patient suffers from stiffness and cramping of the\nmuscles.\n\nHydrastis is also useful in the treatment of chronic piles.  There is a\nlot of wind in the stomach.  The urine is scanty but offensive .  The\nleucorrhoeal discharge in women also smells foul.  There is itching\nin the trachea (windpipe) causing cough.  In Hydrastis, like\nPhosphorus, even a gentle laugh provokes severe coughing.\n\nIn a patient of Hydrastis, apart from the aching of the body and the\nlegs, there is increasing weakness, which improves on slow\nmovement.  In this regard, it resembles Rhus Tox. Although, in\nHydrastis rest gives general relie f to the patient however, gentle\nwalking relieves his aches.  The feet of such a patient swell.  The\nswelling or oedema due to liver di sorder usually affects the face and\nthe abdomen before involving the feet.\n\nHydrastis is in general a very eff ective remedy for the old, frail and\nthose who get tired easily.  The patient remains depressed .  He\nbelieves he is going to die soon.  In fact, he desires to be dead.  He is\nboth lazy and cowardly.  The pain over the forehead  is a prominent\nsymptom, which is often due to co nstipation.  There is pain over the\nhead and in the muscles of the neck.  A streak of eczema forms along\nthe hairline over the forehead.\n\nThe patient remains constipated.  There is pain over the lower part\nof the abdomen,  which becomes worse after defaecation.  The\nstomach aches.  Digestion becomes poor. The taste in the mouth is\nbitter and the tongue becomes whitish.  In women, there is a tendency\ntowards the formation of lumps  in the breasts, and if these lumps\npersist for a long time, they can tr ansform into cancer.  After the\nperiods finish the discharge incr eases, leading to the formation of\nulcers over the cervix associated with severe itching.\n\nHydrastis is also useful in smallpox.
