But I have not seen it effective in\nobesity.  I have used it in various potenc ies but have not seen a single\nobese woman getting slim with it. However  it has certainly proven\nuseful in the treatment of other di seases mentioned in the chapter of\nGraphites.  I always use it in potency 200 or over.  I have never used it\nin potency 30.  As far as the treatment of obesity is concerned, I have\nfound the following three remedies  most useful: Phytolacca,\nPhytolacca Berry and Fucus.\nIn Graphites the menses are scanty.  The bleeding lasts for two or\nthree days and the quantity of the blood loss is also much less.  This is\nprobably the reason for their tenden cy towards being obese.  Perhaps\nGraphites is linked to the treatment of being overweight on this basis.\nOnce the menstrual cycle becomes normal, one can hope to lose\nweight.\n\nThe discharges of Graphites patient are usually very sticky.\nEczema of Graphites is recognized on the same basis.  This eczema is\nusually found behind the ears, over di fferent areas of the head and\nover the joints of the elbows and hands.  There is always some sticky\nsecretion coming out which subsequen tly changes into a hard scab. In\nMezereum too, the discharge is stic ky which then turns into a hard\nscab, making a sort of cover over the head.  Some young children\ndevelop a severe type of eczema, which bleeds on scratching. The\ncondition becomes really troublesome.  The overall symptoms of their\neczema resemble Psorinum as well as Graphites.  This is due to the\nlatent presence of some sinister substance of a deep-seated illness in\ntheir body.  Whenever I gave Silic ea to the children who, based on\ntheir symptoms require to be treated with it, without any exception the\nfoul matter bursts open.  This effect  of Silicea is well established.\nHowever, if with the treatment of Silicea the foul substances only\nsurface to the body but are not eliminated, then we must look for\nanother suitable, similar related medicine.  Next in order to Silicea are\nPsorinum and Graphites.  Psorinum often dries up the eczema, yet\nsometimes it does not offer complete cure.  The dry skin keeps on\nitching, although there is definitely so me relief of symptoms, so much\nso that the child can sleep pea cefully at night.  However, the\neczematous skin starts discharging again after some time.  In this\ncondition, Graphites should also be used  as an adjuvant.  It helps to a\ncertain extent.  Therefore, it is better that the resistant type of illnesses\nlike eczema should be treated with  a number of similarly acting\nremedies, complimentary to each other.  If the itching amounts to\nrestlessness, Arsenic 1000 will also be very useful.  It is especially\nvery effective against dry eczema.  Even if all the symptoms are not\npresent, the element of restlessness is  such that Arsenic will benefit to\nsome extent although the relief may only be temporary.  No doubt, the\nproper use of Arsenic would be of avail where the patient exhibits\nmost of the signs and symptoms of Arsenic.\n\nIt must be well remembered that the treatment is proper only when the\nnature of the medicine, as well as the constitution of the patient, are\nproperly evaluated and matched.  The assumption that a medicine that\nis effective against a particular disease will cure all the patients of that\ndisease is only wishful thinking.  At the same time it is not necessary\nthat an effective cure for each di sease has been discovered, or any\ndoctor has full knowledge about the treatment of every sickness.\nTherefore it is not right to prolong the illness of a patient\nunnecessarily while the patient is  not getting better under the\ntreatment of one doctor.  One should honestly admit that some other\ndoctor may be able to offer a better treatment.  There is no harm in\naccepting defeat.  The patient shoul d be referred to somebody more\nqualified.\n\nGraphites is a very useful dr ug for its own specific kind of eczema.  f\nthe patient has other symptoms of Gra phites, then this drug alone will\nsuffice.  Otherwise, in cases of various types of eczemas (with super-\nadded infections) Graphites is only used as an adjuvant remedy.  If the\nskin becomes raw and red, as is the case with early symptoms of\nPsoriasis, then Graphites should be prescribed.  This symptom of the\nskin is also associated with Silicea.  However, the indication of\nGraphites is the sticky exudate oozing from the skin.\n\nGraphites is also very useful for the treatment of cancer.  The\ntendency towards the formation of a cancer is in the nature of every\ncarbon compound.  Having healed, some wounds burst open again and\nagain and ultimately become cancerous.  Even after surgical removal,\nthey tend to recur after some time.  In such cases, one should always\nremember Graphites.  Graphites s hould be given in potencies 200 or\n1000.  The treatment must be repeat ed until the positive effects of\ntreatment become apparent.\n\nGraphites also has an effect on the muscular system in the body.\nParticularly, it has significant effect on the back of the thighs\n(hamstring muscles).  The patients w ho feel difficulty in standing or\nsitting are of two kinds.  In one group, the movement becomes\ndifficult due to backache and paraly tic symptoms.  Graphites has no\neffect on this group.  In the other group, the muscles have become\ntense and contracted , as if they have become shrunk and are neither\nstretchable not contractable withou t discomfort.  There is severe\ntightness on the back of the thig hs.  This group is amenable to\ntreatment with Graphites.  Graphites must definitely be tried in this\ngroup even if other particular symptoms of Graphites are absent.  Such\nkind of partial treatment becomes necessary on and off.\n\nGraphites is associated with severe constipation.  Faeces pile up in\nthe distal part of the intestines (rectum) as large hard masses packed in\nlayers.  When there is generalised inflammation of the intestines,\noften, such a patient may get temporary relief from Bryonia.  The\ndifference between Bryonia and Gra phites is that in Bryonia, the\nfaeces are generally hard in the be ginning and then become somewhat\nsofter.  In the case of Graphites, the faeces are and remain hard and\nvery dry.  The patient remains constipated for several days.  If\ndiarrhoea starts, the stools become  very watery, black and happen to\ncontain undigested food.\n\nHerpes is a disease in which blisters form along the course of the\nnerves.  The skin becomes raw.  The patient feels severe burning\nsensation, discomfort and pain.  Herpes is of two types.  Herpes Zoster\nor \u201cshingles\u201d appears due to the aff liction of nerves with the virus.\nThe blisters burst open and prom ote further spread of blister\nformation.  The other type of herpes  is genital herpes, which results\nfrom improper sexual behaviour.  It  tends to recur frequently and is\nrelated to external genitals. It is  a very painful disease.  Once\nestablished, the disease lasts forever.  Graphites has a special merit for\nthe treatment of this type of herpes .  However, Graphites alone is not\nenough.  Some other medicine also  needs to be used along with\nGraphites.  I have devised a standard formula for the treatment of all\nkinds of herpes .  This includes Arnica, Le dum and Arsenic.  This\nformula also offers cure for snakebite.  The prescription is very useful\nwhen the pain has started in the previously afflicted snakebite wounds,\nassociated with burning, sensation of heat and the involvement of\nnervous system.  With these medicine s, herpes gets cured fast.  The\ngenital herpes being very obstinate with the probability of recurrence,\nthe treatment must be continued for about six months with intervals of\nseven to ten days in between.\n\nThe patient of Graphites is of cool  temperament like th at of Psorinum\nand Silicea.  When the medicines of  similar temperament and efficacy\nare used one after the other, they do not lower the efficacy of one\nanother. The drugs help each other in curing the disease.\n\nThe patient of Graphites does not lik e the open air, yet leaves the\nwindows open.  Despite the body being co ld, the draft of cold air does\nnot bother him, while in most patie nts; the draft of air is also\nunbearable.  The Graphites patient dislikes cold.  He feels comforted\nwith heat, but the internal body h eat resulting from exercise, jogging\nor walking intensifies his symptoms.\n\nThe symptoms of paralysis are al so found in Graphites.  Like\nCausticum, the paralysis of Graph ites affects only certain organs,\nespecially the lower part of the body. Graphites is very effective in the\ntreatment of the paralysis of legs .  It is also of great use in the\ntreatment of epilepsy.  Epilepsy devel ops as a result of some serious\ndeep-seated illness of the body.  Natu rally, its treatment also requires\nto be conducted with an appropriate remedy of matching nature and\nprofound effectiveness. Graphites is certainly one of those drugs.\n\nGraphites being pure carbon, rese mbles Carbo Veg.  Each carbon\ncompound may exhibit symptoms of  spasms\/convulsions.  Carbo Veg\nis the best treatment for the painful muscle cramps of the legs.  Once\nthese cramps lead to the development of epilepsy, and the other\nspecific symptoms of Graphites being present, Graphites would\ncertainly work.  The distinctive beauty of Graphites is that if it is\neffective against a disease, it will produce excellent results.  The\ndisease may either completely disappear or rendered so mild that the\nepileptic attacks may never recur. Graphites is  an excellent treatment\nfor depression. But this symptom alone cannot be enough to arrive at\nproper diagnosis, because depression is so common that everybody\nseems to have suffered from it at one time or another.  A Graphites\npatient is always anxious, sad and de jected.  His mind gets confused.\nHe loses the ability to think, understand and make decisions.  On\ngetting up in the morning , the patient becomes dizzy.  The mind is\ndulled and the light becomes unbearable.  The eyes burn and become\nred with watery secretions.  The sense of smell becomes very sharp.\nThe patient cannot tolerate the sme ll of the flowers.  The nose is\npainful and dry.  The nasal secretions  dry up in the form of scales.\nThe patient feels as if his face is covered with cobwebs.  Itchy kind of\nblisters form on the skin.  A wet type of eczema develops around the\nmouth and on the chin.  The mouth smells foul. Blisters with\nburning sensation appear on the tongue.\n\nA patient of Graphites usually dislik es meat.  Sweets provoke nausea.\nThe patient tends to nauseate and vomit  after every food.  Women\nfeel nausea in the morning, during menstruation.  There is a feeling of\npressure and burning sensation over the stomach , increasing the\nappetite.  In Graphites, there is severe pain over the neck, shoulders,\nback and upper arms .  The backache causes severe weakness.  The\nleft hand becomes numb and the left  arm too.  The fingernails become\nthick, black and ugly.  Over the toes, there is a feeling of stiffness\nand pinching .  The nails become thick, deformed and are very\npainful.\n\nThe Graphites ailments become more intense with heat, at night, as\nwell as during and after the menstruation.
