This\nplant grows abundantly in most re gions of the world.  The word\nConium is derived from the Greek work Konas, which literally means\n\u201cto cause dizziness\u201d.  The poison produces severe vertigo.  In the tenth\ncentury, this poison was also used in the treatment of diseases of\nlymph glands, epilepsy and whooping cough but due to its severe\ndeleterious effects, its usage was gradually reduced and then\nabandoned.  In the Roman and Greek empires, it was used as a legal\nmeans to cause death of the crimin als subjected to capital punishment.\nThis is the same poison that was pr esented to Socrates.  It paralyses\nthe entire body starting from the feet upwards.  Before death, the\nsymptoms are severe dizziness, convulsions and then progressive\nunconsciousness.\n\nIn homoeopathic form, Conium is us ed for the treatment of all the\nsymptoms described above.  Some other homoeopathic remedies, like\nBelladonna, Gelsemium and Cocculus ar e also known to be used in\nthe treatment of vertigo, but the difference of Conium from the others\nis that the patient feels severe type of dizziness while lying down.  The\nbed seems to be spinning and the slightest movement of the eye\nincreases dizziness.  Young widows or impulsive type of young\nwomen who cannot get married may start suffering from different\nsymptom complexes including typica l symptoms of dizziness due to\nthe suppression of their emotions.  If the symptom of severe dizziness\nis also present, Conium will relieve their other symptoms also.\n\nConium is also useful in the treatment of weak eyesight.  Conium is\nvery important in the treatment of hardened lymph glands , which it\nsoftens.  As long as the glands do not transform into cancer, these are\nnot painful.  Without doubt, Conium is very important in the treatment\nof cancer of the stomach .  The trouble is that in the early stages, the\ncancer of the stomach is painless.  If the treatment is started late,\nwhich usually is the case, then Conium will offer only temporary\nrelief.  It makes life somewhat comfortable but it cannot totally\neliminate the deep-seated roots of the cancer.  Sometimes, the relief is\n\nvery obvious as if the cancer has di sappeared.  In fact, the cancer is\nnot cured, but is simply suppressed temporarily under the effect of\nConium.  It is said that the cancer re appears in three to four years, and\nthen takes up a fatal course.  The cancer should preferably not be\ndiagnosed on the basis of gastri c symptoms only.  However, if\nsomebody has the general signs and sy mptoms of Conium, especially\nvertigo, then it should be used wi thout any delay. By doing this, the\npatient may be spared from cancer.\n\nIn Conium, the symptoms become wo rse with the cold.  The glands,\nonce enlarged, do not regr ess to their original size.  Sometimes, the\npatient experiences a stabbing ty pe of pain in the abdomen.  Blisters\ndevelop around ulcers.  The glands swell on both sides of the neck,\ndescending down the sides of the body.  They become hard with the\nprogression of the disease.  Even if the glands are cured, they will not\nrevert to their previous normal size.  The auxiliary glands also get\nswollen and tend to ulcerate.  Multiple small nodular lumps develop\nin the mammary glands of women.  One symptom of Baryta Carb i.e.\nformation of small fatty lumps  under the skin is similar to Conium.\nThe fatty lumps become ugly and if  they do not respond to Baryta\nCarb, other remedies should be used, and Conium is definitely one of\nthem.\n\nThe cancerous nodules which fungate on the surface of the skin can\nbest be treated with a paste made out  of honey.  Scientif ic research on\nhoney supports this ob servation.  The new sc ientific research on\nhoney is also supportive of the Quranic injunction about the\nextraordinary curative effect of honey.\n\nTrembling of the body, convulsions, w eakness and vertigo present the\ngeneral picture of a Conium patient.  The bladder becomes weak, the\nliver enlarges and the glands swell.  A difficulty in urination and the\ninability to evacuate the bladder completely may very well be the sign\nof an enlarged prostrate gland.  In this condition no delay should be\npermitted in initiating the use of C onium because, if the patient is\nconstitutionally Conium, the delaye d treatment may lead to cancer of\nthe prostate.  In my opinion, the best treatment of cancer of the\nprostate is Silicea CM.  It should be  given once in a fortnight, and by\nthe grace of God, a few doses can cu re the person.  However, Silicea\nwould only be useful if the general picture of the patient is that of\nPulsatilla or Silicea.  Regarding th e nervous system, the symptoms of\n\nConium are a weakness of memory  and general intellectual\nweakness.  The patient cannot think deeply.  This weakness can lead\nto the development of arteriosclerosis.\n\nA Conium patient is generally very bad-tempered and irritable.  He\ngets agitated over very trivial matters.  He is restless and expresses his\nboredom.\n\nA Conium patient cannot tolerate alcohol and other narcotics, which\ncan produce quivering and mental as well as physical weakness.  He\nalso feels severe headache.\n\nMany of the symptoms of Conium re semble those of Cocculus.  In\nboth, the patient feels dizziness, but the difference between the two is\nthat in Conium, the dizziness is felt when the person is lying down\n(his bed spins around him) while in Cocculus the dizzin ess is noticed\non standing up or on walking.\n\nIn a Conium patient, the residual effects of severe grief  manifest in\nthe form of intellectual weakness or loss of memory.\n\nWherever the symptoms and signs of Conium become apparent, the\noverlying skin also feels numb.  The skin becomes yellowish,\nvesicular bumps appear, discharg ing malodorous exudates.  In\naddition to actual sleep, the person st arts sweating on just closing his\neyes.  Drooping of the upper eyelid  is a specific symptom to\nConium.\n\nWhen the eyes become inflamed, they become very sensitive to light\nand the patient feels confounded, but in  Conium even if there is no\nswelling or inflammation of the eye , the sensitivity to light is still\nincreased and the eyes water.  This is specific to Conium.\n\nIn Conium, there is a tendency towards the formation of ulcers and\nchronic sores , so much so that the ulcers of the cornea can be\ncompletely cured with Conium.  The paralysis caused by Conium\nprogresses slowly.  When given on ti me, it prevents further spread of\nthe disease, providing rapid cure.  Once the paralysis is established, it\ntakes a long time to get better.\n\nSometimes, there is paralysis of the circular fibres in the wall of the\ngullet, causing difficulty in swallowi ng.  Conium is certainly one of\nmany other remedies to be used in this condition.\n\nSometimes, the women experience a sensation of heaviness and\nsagging of the uterus . The paralytic state of the uterus due to grief\nafter the death of the husband or after separa tion, which is slowly\nprogressive and associated with numbness of the skin and numbness\nof the hands and feet and dizziness, then Conium must be\nadministered.  If there is an associated inflammation of the cervix\n(neck of the uterus) also, Conium w ill be found very effective.  Even\nif the patient is not of the constitution of Conium, the administration\nof Conium will do no harm wh en given along with the other\nappropriate remedies.\n\nConium is also useful in the treatment of venereal diseases  of both\nmen and women. Conium should be the first to be utilised when the\nbleeding in the initial part of the menstruation is less and it is\nassociated with cramping of the uter us.  In a patient of Conium, there\nis a tendency towards the formation of glandular swellings and lumps\nin the breast and over the entire body.  These nodules  gradually keep\non forming without any apparent sign of cancer.\n\nPotency: Usually 30, but in d eep established diseases, where\nthere is a danger of cancer formation, it is given in\nCM potency and it is found to be very effective.","modalities":"","symptoms_by_system":[],"schema_version":"1.0","api_provider":"Allahshafi"}
