The Causticum symp toms progress gradually.  The\nparalysis that follows exposure to cold is usually considered as having\noccurred suddenly.  In fact, the pa tient has been exposed a few days\nearlier and then suffers from gradual progressive restlessness,\nweakness and tiredness before exhib iting the symptoms of paralysis.\nParalysis of a sudden kind  is seen in Aconite.  In the case of\nCausticum, the exposure to cold occurs  two to three days, or at least\ntwenty-four hours before the onset of signs.\n\nStammering due to partial paralysis of the muscles of the tongue, but\nnot due to fear, is best treated with  Causticum.  However, once a child\nstarts stammering, an element of f ear also prevails.  In such a\nsituation, the combination of Stra monium and Causticum will offer\nmuch faster relief from paralysis.\n\nIn the illnesses of Causticum, the nerves become afflicted resulting in\npermanent changes in the muscles.  The glands become hard.  If the\nparalysis prolongs, the limbs become stiff and contracted.  Causticum\nis the ideal treatment if other symptoms of Causticum are also present.\n\nHysteria is another condition in which successive fits gradually\nbecome more and more severe lead ing to convulsions.  The patient of\nthe nature of Causticum is over-sensitive and can neither tolerate noise\nnor light touch.  Cold and the heat both do not suit him.  Usually the\nspasm affects individual muscles.  Joint pains associated with\nCausticum are relieved by the application of heat, except in the case of\nthe fingers where cold offers greater  relief than heat.  Similarly, the\ncough associated with Causticum also responds better to intake of\ncold water.  The patient of a Causticum nature suffers more in the hot\nclimate or with heat, except in the areas of the throat and the hand.\nCausticum by nature causes restlessness.\n\nCausticum is also related to epilepsy.  However, epilepsy resulting\nfrom a deformity of the skull or a se vere accident is not amenable to\n\nany kind of medicine.  For this, su rgery is the only treatment.  In\nAmerica, a neurosurgeon was awarded a Nobel Prize for the\nsuccessful surgical treatment of thirty-four epileptic patients.\n\nIn Causticum, if the  symptoms relating to the skin are suppressed\nby any means, then mental illnesses ensue.\n\nThe headache that may potentially result in a stroke  can be treated\nwith Causticum.  Some kinds of  severe headache may render the\npatient temporarily blind.  If in such a patient, the vision returns and\nthere are no paralytic signs, Ge lsemium would be found more\neffective than Causticum.  In case of paralytic symptoms, Causticum\nwould be the most ideal remedy\n\nThe slowly progressive drooping of the eyelids (ptosis) also requires\nCausticum.  This condition develops  and progresses slowly and so\nwill be the road to recovery. The treatment with Causticum should be\ncontinued with perseverance.  At times, the alternation of Sulphur and\nCausticum will also be found to be useful.\n\nSometimes, the patient sees spots.  Green spots specify Causticum.  In\nCausticum, there is a tendency to develop warts.  Thuja and\nMedorrhinum are both usef ul in the treatment of  fine, soft warts but\nwhen the warts are large and in abundance, Causticum and Nitricum\nAcid are more useful.  Warts relate d to Causticum appear on the face\nand the nose, especially a big wart y area over the nose establishes its\ndiagnosis.\n\nAnother symptom of Causticum is  the development of paralytic\nsymptoms in the throat.  The voice is hoarse  in the morning.  The\nsymptoms gradually develop and can progress to difficulty in\nswallowing.  The patient is afraid  of choking himself by entry of food\ninto the air passage.  This sympto m may be associated with many\nother Homoeopathic remedies. But a successful outcome rests on the\nconstitutional remedy.\n\nThe Causticum patient is not usually superstitious.  Sometimes he may\nlose his appetite altogether at the sight of food.\n\nSometimes, women develop urinary retention\/stoppage at the time\nof childbirth due to anxiety, pressure or  inflammation of the kidneys.\n\nCausticum becomes indispensable to co mbat this urgent situation.  In\nfact, it becomes a life saving measur e in some cases.  I have found in\nmy practice, that some women do not pass urine for twenty-four hours\nafter giving birth.  On administer ing Causticum, they first passed\nblood-mixed urine, showing that th e kidneys were only inflamed and\nnot totally shut down.  The blood in  the urine started clearing and\nurination became free and normal.  After this, they were given a\ncourse of Pareira Brava Q, which acts as diuretic and washes the\nkidneys naturally clean.  In other situations when urinary stoppage\noccurs, Causticum has a different role.  For example, the patient\ncannot pass urine while sitting.  When the patient stands up, the\npressure expels the urine invol untarily and unknowingly. Causticum\nhas been found significantly useful in treating this condition.\n\nIn Causticum, sometimes there is pa ralysis of the lower part of the\nlarge gut (rectum) and the patient su ffers from faecal incontinence.\nThe stools become hard in the rect um in the form of stones.  The\npatient happens to pass those hardened stools while walking,\nunknowingly.  Such patients are rare but in my experience, and I have\nseen two or three, all of who were old people.\n\nThe patient of Causticum exhibits  a reddish glare on the tongue.\nWomen experience pain and spasms  in the lower abdomen before\ntheir periods, which cease once menstruation begins.  When bleeding\nstops, the spasms recur.  The spasms get better when menstruation\nresumes.\n\nWhen periods stop as a reaction to some shock , fear or at the death\nof a dear one, Causticum may be useful to abate this condition.\nSimilarly, nursing mothers may stop producing milk due to sudden\nshock or severe grief.  Causticum will restore their lactation.\n\nThe paralysis of the throat in a Causticum patient is not only related\nto the muscles of swallowing but also affects the voice box.\n\nThe three Homoeopathic remedies Phosphorus, Bryonia and\nCausticum are very similar.  In short-lived illnesses, they can be given\ntogether without any danger.  In fact, the combination works at a\ngreater advantage.  This combination should not be used in a potency\nhigher than 30.  If this combinati on does not prove to be effective,\n\nthen one of these remedies whose symptoms match with the patient\nthe most, may work on its own.\n\nAdjuvants: Carbo Veg, Petrosel\nAntidotes: Colocynth, Dulcamara, Guaiacum, Nux Vomica\nPotency: 30 to CM","modalities":"","symptoms_by_system":[],"schema_version":"1.0","api_provider":"Allahshafi"}
