Pure silver cannot\nbe absorbed into the body.  However, when silver is combined with\nother elements, the body is able to absorb its compounds.  In Greek\nmedicine, it was used in the form of  silver foil as a tonic, but pure\nsilver cannot become a part of th e body tissue.  Unfortunately, these\ndays lead is beaten into the form of a foil and sold as silver even\nthough lead is very harmful to the health of a person.\n\nAs far as homoeopathy is concerned, any metal which comes into\ncontact with the lining of the skin or the inner lining of the gut is\nabsorbed into the body, although it  may not be detectable by any\nsophisticated gauges.\n\nThe main effect of the Argentum Metallicum is on the elastic\ncartilage bones, which become thick and hard.  The thickened nasal\nbone can cause difficulty in breathing.  Small bones of the ears\ndevelop nodular thickening.  This process of progressive thickening of\nthe bone can lead to cancer formation.\n\nArgentum Metallicum works profoundly on the brain cells.  The cells\nstart melting away slowly, and premature senility sets in.  The\ncapability to comprehend deteriorates .  This weakness starts in the\ncentral part of the brain and then spreads gradually to other organs of\nthe body.  Mental faculties start failing.  Hands and feet start to bend.\nThe memory becomes weak to the extent that th e patient goes out of\nhis senses and talks nonsense.  The ability to think decreases .\nSerious thinking causes dizziness.  This is a danger signal\nand\nindicates the degenerati on of brain cells.  In such cases, Argentum\nMetallicum in high potency should be  administered without delay and\nrepeated every fifteen to twenty days or monthly.  The inhaler used by\nasthmatic patients also contains a poisonous substance which, like\nArgentum Metallicum, makes the brain tissue shrink and then\ndegenerate.\n\nArgentum Metallicum resembles Lachesis in the way that the\nsymptoms aggravate during sleep, es pecially the ner vous exhaustion\nleading to generalized physical fatigue.\n\nArgentum Metallicum works deeply on the muscles of the limbs.\nNeuralgic pains mostly affect both the legs and the feet .  The nerve\nfibres feel as though they are being torn apart.  These neuralgic pains\naggravate during sleep and in cold  and wet weather.  (Rheumatic\naches and pains also get worse in stormy and humid weather).  In the\nrainy season, they also get worse before and after the rain.  There is no\nassociated swelling of the limbs, but the patient is definitely very\nrestless.  Light movements lessen the joint pains while rapid motions\nintensify them.  The discomfort is not due to the sleep itself, but the\nrest offered by sleep.  The pains are worse at night as in Rhus Tox.\nThe difference is that in Rhus Tox, there is a severe physical\nuneasiness and the person spends the night tossing about.\n\nArgentum Metallicum is  very useful in the cancers of the skin and\nmucus membranes .  Cancer at the uterine neck,  which most\ndoctors label as incurable, is very  amenable to Argentum Metallicum,\neven curable.  In case the cure is not achieved, the patient can still\nremain comfortable for a long time.  Tarentula Hispania, Helonias and\nCarbo Animalis are also very useful in cancer of the cervix of the uterus.\n\nIn Argentum Metallicum, there are widespread ulcerations on the\nbody.  The ulcers over the cartilage bone s respond very well to\nArgentum Metallicum.  It is also a ssociated with the lining of veins.\nA very special feature of Argentum Metallicum is that it affects the\ninternal organs of women strictly on the left side, and the internal\norgans of men strictly on the right  side. Usually it is not difficult to\ndifferentiate the remedies specific for the right or the left and upper or\nlower part of the body. This remedy, however, particularly\ndifferentiates the ailments of ri ght and left in men and women\nrespectively.  In women, the ovary swells into a form of a large cyst.\nAccumulation of different materials makes it large and more thick.\nThe uterus also expands and loses its elasticity.  Once expanded, it\ndoes not return to its original condition.  This problem aggravates after\nevery delivery and sometimes the uterus descends down. Argentum\nMetallicum is extremely useful in such women, offering cure.  The\nuterus becoming hard and the cervix stiff,  in association with a\n\nputrid discharge, indicate the presence of a deep serious problem.\nAdministered early on, Argentum Metallicum can abort the disease.\n\nIf the legs hurt but the real cause is not known, Argentum Metallicum\nis worth a trial.  It can be very  useful in post-menopausal bleeding.\nArgentum Metallicum is generally , though not necessarily, indicated\nin women of thin, lean build with long slender hands.  It may be useful\nin obese women also.\n\nSome people feel sudden jerks on retiring to sleep or during sleep.\nThis is quite troublesome. Grindelia is ideal in such cases.  Arsenic\nmay also be useful. Argentum Metallicum is indicated if such jerks of\nviolent motion are secondary to severe physical fatigue.  Generally,\nGrindelia is good enough in most such  patients.  One single dose may\nwork for many weeks, and does not need to be repeated.\n\nArgentum Metallicum symptoms are at  the climax exactly at midday.\nThe patient feels dizzy.  The headache is localised to the forehead and\nface or sometimes on any one side of the head, but mostly on the right\nside.  It intensifies gradually, but th en subsides rapidly.  This pain is\nrelated to facial neuralgia, because basically this is a neuralgic remedy\nand headache is also related to nerves.\n\nSevere itching,  limited to one ear and leading to the injury and\nthickening of the ears, is indicative of Argentum Metallicum.\nThickening of both ears is an early sign of le prosy.  Leprosy, a very\nslowly progressive disease, can be st be controlled by early use of\nHydrocotyle.\n\nArgentum Metallicum is extremely useful in diabetics and patients\npassing albumin in the urine.  Provided its other signs are also present, it\ncan be completely cured. Argentum Metallicum is also very beneficial in\ninflammation of the inner lining of the kidneys (Nephritis).\n\nIn Argentum Metallicum, two signs are shown in urine.  If it is dark\ncoloured, this indicates passage of albumin in the urine.  If it is\ncloudy and copious , this indicates the presence of sugar, as is in\njuvenile diabetes. Argentum Metallicum would only be useful if other\nconstitutional symptoms are also present. Argentum Metallicum\nwould be useful in diabetics with failing kidneys who wet their beds\nat night.\n\nIn Argentum Metallicum there is  a feeling of extremely unusual\nweakness and  lethargy and the body feels lifeless.  Argentum\nMetallicum is the treatment for th is extreme fatigue.  Argentum\nMetallicum is a remedy of speakers and singers.  It is  well known for\nthe treatment of hoarseness of the voice following excessive speaking\nand singing.  Hoarseness is known in  other homoeopathic remedies\ntoo, such as in Rhus Tox, however, it is not difficult to differentiate\nbetween them.  In Rhus Tox, the patient feels a hoarseness of the\nvoice at the outset, which gradually gets clearer and better gradually\non continued talking.  If the voice becomes worse on talking, Borax\ncan be used.  However, if the overall symptoms are of Argentum\nMetallicum, this will prove better than Borax.\n\nIn Argentum Metallicum, the trachea swells up and is very painful .\nThe cough becomes aggravated by laughing (as in Phosphorus).\nArgentum Metallicum patients develop cold on exposure to the cold\nwhich can lead to irritation of the throat, and discomfort at the upper\npart of the chest.  The fever comes on in the afternoon.  There is\nsevere weakness in the chest and pain on the left ribs. Argentum\nMetallicum is of good use in diseases of the lungs .  Stanum is better\nthan Argentum Metallicum in diseases associated with a lot of\nsputum\/expectoration, unless the overall picture resembles that of\nArgentum Metallicum. There is premature ageing in Argentum\nMetallicum.  Even at the age of 20 to 25 years, the face appears full of\nwrinkles.  Sarsaparilla is the be st remedy for premature ageing.\nChinisum Ars is good in ageing which is secondary to deep illnesses\nof long-standing.  The liver and spleen  fail.  In Sarsap arilla the skin\nshrivels.\n\nIn Argentum Metallicum, if the patient lies flat on his back, watery\nfluid accumulates in the lung,  causing palpitations  and difficulty in\nbreathing.  On sitting up and stan ding, the upper part of the lung\nbecomes clear of the fluid, and the person can breathe easily.\nArgentum Metallicum is very a dvantageous in pregnant women\nexperiencing sudden or severe palpitations of the heart.   Typically,\nthe symptoms of Argentum Metallicum aggravate by touch and at\nmidday.
