It s symptoms resemble those\ncaused during the peeling of onions.  The throat becomes hoarse ,\nnasal secretions are watery and acidic .  The eyes water, but do not get\nred or irritated.  (Euphrasia cause s watering from the eyes with\nburning type of itch an d redness.) The other point of difference in\nAllium Cepa is that there is a persistent cough day and night.  In\nEuphrasia, as the nasal secretions pour out of the eyes during the day\nthe cough is less frequent, but at ni ght the cough gets aggravated due\nto the dripping of the nasal secretions  in the throat or into the lungs.\nThe patient wakes up and experiences severe bouts of coughing.  The\ncough steadily starts easing off in the morning.  The eyes start\nwatering and redness occurs.\n\nAllium Cepa does not produce redness in the eyes, instead it involves\nthe ears which ache, discharge and become partially deaf.  If it\nhappens as the result of a nasal cold, it can res pond favourably to\nAllium Cepa, or other remedies like Chamomilla, Pulsatilla and\nAmmonium Carb should be sought as indicated.\n\nIn Allium Cepa, the symptoms tend to migrate from the right to the\nleft.  This also happens in Lachesis, where the symptoms start on the\nleft side, and as the body defence responds, they migrate to the right\nside.  The venom of the majority of the snakes mostly affects the left\nside of the body.  It is strange but in teresting to know that snakes hate\nonions.  In the Sindh province of Pakistan, people spread onions\naround their beds to keep the snakes at bay and this method works.\n\nIn Allium Cepa, the symptoms of illness are aggravated by rest and\nrelieved by movement.  At night, th e symptoms worsen.  One catches\ncold in cold and damp weather, an d feels relieved in open air.  Along\nwith the cold, there is headache, especially on the right temporal area\nto the forehead.  The cold affects the left nostril before the right.\n\nAllium Cepa is very helpful in whooping cough  and chicken pox .\nAllium Cepa is very good in vomiting, indigestion and the passing of\n\nfoul gas in the early co urse of chicken pox.  It is also good in the\nabdominal pain of children.\n\nIn Allium Cepa, abdominal pain cau ses an urge to pass urine with\nburning pain at the bladder .  The urine is reddish in color.  Along\nwith cold symptoms there is freque nt urination.  The voice is hoarse,\nthe throat is irritated and the windpipe hurts.  There is severe coughing\nand repeated sneezing.  The back of the neck hurts.  The patient feels\nchills from the back downwards at  night. Consequently, the patient\nhas to pass urine frequently.\n\nSometimes along with the nasal catarr h, tiny little red pimples appear\nwith a piercing sensation.
