In English, this process is known\nas metastasis.  It means that the disease shifts from one part of the\nbody to another.  For instance, in  the case of mumps, the parotid\nglands (situated below the ear) swell, and when the disease becomes\nsuppressed at this place, it transfers itself to the reproductive organs.\nThere are many reasons for it being suppressed, for example it could\nbe due to the use of antibiotics, or through local application of\npoultices.  Sometimes it could be du e to sudden exposure to cold in\nhigh fever.  Among all medicines us ed in the migrating type of\nailments, Abrotanum is one of the most salient ones.\n\nSometimes, by the suppression of diarrhoea, the patient experiences\nsudden severe pain in the joints an d at other times, the heart may be\naffected.  Similarly, sudden cessation of menstruation may result in\nmental or other ailments.\n\nWe shall continue talking about th e migration of a disease from one\nplace to another in the c ontext of different remedies so that one may\nbe able to understand well, the i ndication and usage of remedies for\nshifting the illness back to where it started.\n\nIf a patient suffers from gout or rheumatism, yet at the same time\nexperiences restlessness as if the blood through the heart seems to be\nscraping the heart, and also he has Epistaxis or blood in the urine, then\nhe is very likely to get cured by the use of Abrotanum.\n\nThe basic nature of the Abrotanum patient is that loose frequent stools\n(diarrhoea) give him relief by excreting the harmful products that\nwould have otherwise involved the joints.  In su ch a patient,\nAbrotanum will also gradually cure diarrhoea as well as joint pains.\nIf the joint pains are suppressed by  using some remedies, or by local\nheat application and the patient contracts pleurisy instead of diarrhoea,\nthen it becomes imperative for the Homoeopath to retrace the course\nof sickness back to its origin.  If the joint pains had preceded the\ndevelopment of pleurisy (inflammation of the outer lining of the lung\nwhich causes pain on deep breathing and much more so on coughing),\nthen surely the remedy in this case would be Abrotanum. Abrotanum\n\nwill cure the pleurisy but may initially cause the recurrence of joint\npains, which will eventually be cured by continued use of Abrotanum,\nInsha Allah.\n\nAbrotanum is also very useful in the generalised wasting disease of\nthe children (marasmus) when its basic features are also present.  For\nthe treatment of marasmus in children, Aethusa, Natrum Mur and\nCalcaria Carb are also well known re medies.  In Calcaria Carb, the\nwasting affects the legs, while in Abrotanum it starts at the legs but\nextends to the upper body.  This symptom alone is sufficient to\nsuggest that Abrotanum is the remedy to be given in potency 30, three\ntimes a day.  This could bring complete cure, by the Grace of God.\n\nIf the joint pains get better but the heart becomes affected, one should\nnot ignore Abrotanum in addition to the other remedies for the heart.\n\nSometimes on the sudden cessation of diarrhoea, joint pains and\nbleeding piles  develop, Abrotanum would st ill be the right choice.\nSuch a patient feels excessive cold.  His symptoms aggravate in cold\nand humid weather.  He often complains of backache worsening at\nnight.  The backache of Abrotanum always worsens at night\nirrespective of any specific time, but the backache of Kali Carb is\nspecific for late night or very ear ly morning hours around 3-4 am.  In\nsuch a patient, if we find the core  symptom of \u2018amelioration by onset\nof diarrhoea\u2019, then the back pain  will also be cured by Abrotanum.\nThe general improvement of symptoms  with the onset of diarrhoea is\nalso present in Natrum Sulph and Zinc, but to make proper diagnosis,\ntheir salient features should also be present in a patient.\n\nAbrotanum pains are sometimes of cu tting or piercing nature, which\ncan involve the ovaries, in addition  to the joints.
